Victorian Bushfires

Tyabb RFB and its members have been fully involved with the ongoing bushfires.  Forewarned of the potential danger members came to the station on Saturday morning to enable us to react quickly.  Just after 1pm we got a call to a house fire in Somerville.  As that job was coming to an end we got the call to participate in a strike team destined for the Bunyip fires near Nar Nar Goon.  For most of the day Tyabb’s Tanker 1 was involved in asset protection but as the cool change came through we were rushed down the freeway to stop the fire crossing the freeway and to protect the small township of Nilma.  Working with trucks from other brigades we were able to save nearly all of the properties in Nilma with only 1 house being lost.  The rest of that day was spent blacking out small fires and hot spots left by the main fire.  Back in our local area, Tyabb Tanker 2 and crew were sent to 2 separate grass and scrub fires in the Hastings vicinity.

Motor Vehicle Accident Jones Rd 13/02/09

Tyabb Tanker 2 was called to a Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) on Jones Rd at about 7am this morning.  The accident involved 2 cars and unfortunately the ambulance had to take 3 people to hospital.  The road was closed for some time with traffic being diverted via McLaurin Dr by the police.  Quite a lot of oil was spilled onto the road and extra time was needed for the council to make the road safe again.  Tyabb Tanker 2 returned to the station at about 9am and was made ready for the next call.
